When Jerome B. “J.B.” Daiches — a handsome Navy veteran, home builder, amateur actor, and eligible bachelor — died in Dallas in 2010 at age 88, he had no heirs. His family photos went to the Fort Worth Jewish Archives. This rich collection includes classic small town images from Arkansas and Fort Worth as well as fashionably dressed folks from the 1940s. J.B.’s father, a jeweler, hired premier photographer W.D. Smith to take pictures of his downtown Fort Worth store. The Daiches (pron. dye-ches) family traveled to the Catskills and throughout the Caribbean, adding a dimension beyond the Metroplex to their photo collection.
